I understand that (32) was sent to Colonel Cole on a new file. He may not know, therefore, of the background to the meeting which was held in the Foreign Office on the 3rd August. I do not want to trouble him again, but I think you should know, if you do not already, of the proposal to establish a Liaison Mission with the advance headquarters of Chinese and American forces. It appeared from the meeting that the first duty of the proposed Mission would be to assist in the relief and rehabilitation of British subjects in liberated Chinese territories.

2. I do not know whether in the new circumstances this project is being pursued but as you are in touch with Mr. Davidson, you will probably know and will be able to say whether it is one which could be of use in our plans for the relief of prisoners of war and internees in Hong Kong.
